Peeling Away Layers

Spread the love

Well it’s been another long day and I have a huge amount of work to get through later, so I’m just going to take a quick shower to take away the aroma’s of the day.  The aroma’s have been sticking to me today much more than the previous day, and I need to start peeling away layers in order to get to the inner aroma.

It’s always the inner aroma that is the best and then I can relax.  I could of course just come in, sit here and do the work, but if I just sit and not get changed then I don’t feel the same and I don’t get the same results.

Is it Procrastination?

What on earth is he going on about?  Is this a new style of writing approach or is he revealing his new tattoo?

Well, no, that’s not it at all.  This is you or I trying to get things done but putting things in the way of what we want to do. Not exactly procrastination, but just a little bit of well putting a layer on top of another layer, wearing it all day and then taking it off again.

We do this all the time.  We see something we like, try it on, put it back, pick it up, smell it, put it up to the light to see through it and then buy it or throw it away.  I get like this when I really want something but I cant afford tom buy it.  I get like this when I put on my running gear and it starts raining.

I’m being non-committal.  I’m not doing what I need to do.  I’m not starting what I need to start.  I’m not committing myself to what needs to be done, whatever it is.

I’m not putting it off, I am just not doing anything, and we cannot do that.  Doing nothing is preventing us from being better than we are.  We are not writing great content, not putting efforts into our marketing strategy, not preparing for an advertising campaign, not getting a better website design and not getting more business and therefore not getting any money.

Layering Up

We all do this, we put on layers and we must start peeling away layers, whatever your layers are, as they are stopping you from progression.

They just delay you from producing a script that could make the difference between making a sale or breaking a sale.

They prevent you from taking the photograph that appears on every website, or a headline that is shared around the social world.

We should all focus on what we need to do, get into taking the action required to make a start or a difference to our business.

We prepare without distraction, with total intent and with reverence.

We should push past the blockades, through the masses and hammer our flag into the ground at the top of the hill, so all around can look and admire.

Peel away your layers today!!

  1. Often I find you just need to get started even when you feel like you don’t want to and then all of a sudden we are focused. I always find those things that I put off and eventually do weren’t really that bad after all. So, it’s generally our thinking about it which then affects how we feel and how willing we will be to do what we need to do. We need to stop thinking so much about the stuff we feel we need to do and just get on and do it. We can often think even days in advance about what we have to do that we feel we don’t really want to do and that can affect our mood and our productivity. We need to be present.

    1. Hi Martine. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply. We can’t afford to put things off, if we do it will lead to stagnation. When your business email list gets above 1000 you will need to stay ahead of the game or customers will just unsubscribe to your list, so we cannot afford to lose those customers.

  2. I get what your saying. I think at times everyone goes through these different stages. When you finally peel back the layers and make a commitment to yourself then you will shine. Changing one thing you do, say, or think could set off a ripple effect beyond your wildest imagination. Keep on believing and take care.

    1. Hi Brian. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply. Making a commitment is about focusing and sticking to what you said you need to do, applying action and carrying tasks through.

  3. Exactly. We need the right layer or mindset for the task at hand.
Several years ago I read that just having a dedicated space for specific tasks, i.e. homework, entertainment, etc. would do it.
But, now with the variety of technology enabling one to attend to those tasks anywhere, it now really relies on mindset and being able to switch ‘gears’ – a favorite expression I still understand very much.

    1. Hi Wjtera. Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to the post. I think we all need to focus on what we need to do and stick to the task rather than switch from one thing to another unless you are adept at multi tasking. Each task needs complete focus or you just forget what you were trying to achieve.

  4. Hi,

Thanks for this post, it’s a very interesting way of describing how frustrating the creative process can feel. Especially how, that if we’re not careful, we can sabotage our success without being cognisant that is what we are doing.

This list should help people peel back the layers and being able to notice when they are inadvertently leading themselves away from their goals.

    Thanks again,

    1. Hi Lisa. Thank you for taking the time to read and reply. I wrote this as I think its important to realise how easy it can be to distracted by other things, and we need to strip away the things that stop us from building our businesses. Currently there is one huge issue distracting everyone and we hope it soon passes, so we can fully focus 100%. Dave
